After last weekends rest, the under 10 Reds hit the artificial turf of Narrabeen to take on the Pittwater Tigers. They looked well drilled, and aggressively coached, so we were expecting a tougher battle than recent weeks.
And so it proved, as the arm wrestle began on a HUGE pitch in swirling wind. The first quarter saw a Suns behind and solitary goal, outside of the boot from Archie. 7-0 at quarter time.
The second quarter was much of the same as the Tigers were dominating the ruck, but not converting their inside 30’s. They did sneak a goal, which saw a reply from Max to make it 13-6 at the long break.
The Tigers coaching team were shouting at their kids at HT (curious tactic and disappointing to see) and were clearly frustrated at being behind. in the Suns camp it was talk of continuing the great hand passing and defence, supporting team mates and getting stronger in the ruck.
The third quarter was another solid showing, with Liam J excelling in the ruck and some great running across the park, with Hamish bopping up regularly. Oscar kicked a great set shot from long range, to make it 20-6, and the Tigers couldn’t score so the lead looked strong before the final quarter.
Marcus kicked a somewhat controversial goal (it looked like the ball had hit the post moments before), then the Suns kicked a couple of behinds, plus one for the Tigers to see the game end 28-7. it was tight, it was competitive but the Suns were always in control.
Props to PJ for the outstanding work on the stats (see image above).
