(Paul Jordan on March report, fluffed up a little by ed.)
An early arrival was required at Pickworth Ave for the annual photo shoot before Sunday’s second encounter of the season with Forest Lions. It was evident that a few of the lads had put in a little bit of extra appearance effort but none more so than Hipster Coach who was sporting a very sharp short back and sides.
Once the photos were complete, the game was soon underway and with conditions a lot calmer than last week, the Reds were soon demonstrating strong handling skills taking 6 marks in the first quarter. This, coupled with a solid showing in the mids resulted in Hamish and Marcus scoring the first two goals of the day and Archie grabbing a couple of behinds. 14-0 at quarter time.
Strong numbers and an unaccommodating Forest coach meant the Suns had 3 on the bench which proved handy as a few of the boys started to take some big knocks in the second quarter. It didn’t stop them though and we saw great handballing and solid defence, particularly from Marcus. Liam was thankful there was no VAR as he went on a mazy run before slotting through the posts and Forest got off the mark taking it to 20-1 at half time.
An immense forward line performance in Q3 took the game completely away from the Lions. Jesse, Hugo, Fin and Noah lead the charge and Noah dropped 4 (yes 4!) in quick succession before Hugo bounced back from another big hit to set up Fin for the 5th Suns goal of a very impressive quarter. 50-2.
The final quarter saw the Lions fight back and get their first goal of the game. Zac responded with a goal and a behind and Liam also added a behind.
Suns 9.4.58 – Lions 1.2.8
Another cracking team performance by the Reds – strong in defence, great spirit and teamwork and some awesome handling skills.
Roll on next Sunday….
